China Watch Blog wishes to share with readers this email which we received in the post on lesson in life.

Do not jump to conclusions too quickly in life

The following photos are photographs of the same location in different seasons. . . . .

Lessons on Life生命的功课
There was a man who had four sons.
He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly.
So he sent them each on a quest, in turn,
to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring,
the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back,
he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said no it was covered with green buds
and full of promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms
that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful,
it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them;
he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit,
full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right,
because they had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person,
by only one season, and that the essence of who
they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from
that life can only be measured at the end,
when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it’s winter,
you will miss the promise of your spring,
the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.

Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Don’t judge life by one difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches and better times
are sure to come some time or later.

China Watch Blog has learnt that in recent months, the buzz surrounding the 2009 Bordeaux vintage has been building. Many wine critics and commentators believe 2009 will rival the legendary 2005, 2000 and 1982 vintages.

Robert Parker, arguably one of the world’s most influential wine critics, on Friday awarded a record number of wines 100-points and stated that 2009 “may turn out to be the finest vintage I have tasted in 32 years of covering Bordeaux.”

Hong Kong wine drinkers keen to be among the first to sample this much-lauded vintage can now do so at bordeaux etc. The premier wine retailer in Causeway Bay is receiving new wines direct from Bordeaux each week and has a team of in-house experts to recommend 2009’s best buys, identify the quality investments and reveal their full-bodied favourites.

“bordeaux etc is proud to be one of the first Hong Kong wine retailers to offer a broad selection of 2009 Bordeaux ,” says Mathieu Pouchan, Chief Sommelier of etc wine shops. “The 2009 Bordeaux vintage is already being heralded as one of the best in decades. The near-perfect combination of cool nights and hot days has produced an incomparable vintage with excellent aging potential.”

Having tasted a number of leading labels from this stellar vintage, Mathieu has selected the following wines as his top choices:

La Gravette de Certan – Pomerol 2009

Featuring ripe fruit, blackcurrant, blackberry and floral tones, the wine reveals a refreshing lightness and an elegant nose. The palate has a deep texture with creamy tannins and bright acidity. $495 HKD
Chateau Talbot – St Julien 2009

As opposed to previous vintages with an earthy nose, the 2009 vintage boasts a licorice and cedar aroma along with hints of black fruits and ripe blackberry. It also features fine- grained tannins and a long finish on the palate. $599 HKD

Domaine de Chevalier Rouge – Pessac Leognan 2009

The 2009 vintage reveals creamy, round textures of a pure red fruit. With a hint of delicate earth and smoke on the nose, the vintage displays real terroir. It is a juicy and harmonious wine featuring velvety tannins. $769 HKD

Leoville Barton – St. Julien 2009

With a fabulous nose of black plums, spices and sweet minerals, this dark purple wine reveals superb ripeness and great intensity. It leaves a long spicy finish with a caramel aftertaste. $1,090 HKD
