China Watch Blog has learnt that the Ministry of Education has made it compulsory – a MUST for college students studying mental health in China – to take up a course in “Psychology of love and sex”, and forms a basic requirement for studying such courses.
According to a Beijing Times report on Wednesday, the psychology courses for Chinese college students generally include basic knowledge, self-understanding, self-development and psychological adjustment and improvement.
For the psychological adjustment area, seven psychological problems are listed that students are likely to face during their college life: study and career planning, skills development, psychology of learning, emotional management, interpersonal relationships, psychology of love and sex, stress management and coping with frustration.
The love and sex course is designed to help students learn about the development of sexual physiology and psychology, understand the psychology of falling in love and having sex as well as to help them form healthy sex consciousness and love outlook.
Such are the attempts by Chinese authorities to bring college students up to speed on matters of love and sex so that they are very clear about what they are dealing with in discussing issues with their patients in their jobs after they complete their studies.
