SHANGHAI, Apr 30 (GCTL) - China Eastern Airlines, the country's second-biggest domestic carrier, is close to signing a US$6 billion order for 20 long-haul Boeing 777 planes, a company executive said.

A contract will be signed within days, said the executive who declined to be identified. The order for 20 wide-body Boeing 777s will allow the US plane maker to recover from a setback when China Eastern cancelled an order for 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners last year.

The order also follows a rivalry between Boeing and Airbus as China Eastern withheld a US$3 billion order for 15 Airbus A330 aircraft last October, according to a report by the Reuters, Shanghai Daily reported.
