China delivers world's largest bulk freighter to Brazil

DALIAN, Feb 27 (GCTL) - The world's largest deadweight tonnage (DWT) bulk freighter - huge ore carrier (VLOC) "GEMMA" - built by the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd in China set sail recently for Brazil, the shipbuilder announced.

The VLOC, which is 330 meters long and 57 meters wide, weighs 151,915 tonnes and is able to carry 313,000 tonnes of deadweight, a shipyard spokesman said, adding that it took the company 15 months to build the largest bulk freighter in the world.

Before it set sail for Brazil on Feb. 16, it was filled with 5,300 tonnes of fuel, 200 tonnes of light diesel oil, 1,012 barrels of lubricating oil and other supplies, he said.
