2012-03-30 03:06:35

WELLINGTON, Mar 30 (GCTL) - Air New Zealand said it would axe flights to Beijing to focus on Shanghai as its gateway to China, and a daily service would be in place within a year to tap the growing market.

The existing twice-weekly direct service to Beijing will end from June 30, while it would raise its Shanghai service to five a week from four.

The New Zealand flag carrier’s international general manager Christopher Luxon said that they believed expansion into China would be best achieved by consolidating services into Shanghai.
