PSA volumes up

SINGAPORE, Oct 17 (GCTL) - PSA International Pte, the world’s second-biggest container port operator, handled 8.7 percent more box traffic in the first nine months this year compared to the same period a year earlier.

The operator handled 16.66 million TEU (20-ft equivalent unit) between January and September, versus 15.32 million TEU a year earlier, PSA said in its website. Singapore overtook Hong Kong as the world’s busiest container port in the first eight months of this year.

PSA said its ports worldwide, including operations in Hong Kong, China and India, moved 29.66 million TEU in the first nine months, 20 percent more than a year earlier. State-owned PSA and Singapore-based Jurong Port handled a combined 17.34 million TEU in the first nine months, 9.8 percent more than the previous year.
